She wasn't sure she was ready.
His big puppy paws had big shoes to fill.
He came into her life after the
Loss of the Corgi before him.
Looking at him made her cry, remembering.
Playing with him made her laugh,
Envisioning the future.
There was no more doubt.
He had to come home with her.
Now he owns their couch, allowing people to
Rent space on it for a
Good scratch behind his ears.
The house is alive with the galloping of
Puppy feet and the
Warmth of puppy kisses.

He carries her safely while her imagination
Gallops recklessly across floral fields.
He gently jogs through her memory as she
Hikes the concrete trail to her bus stop.
His whinny floats on the air of her daydreams
